The Fab 4 of Files. Online and local.

One app instead of five.
I use it every day. It replaced WinSCP (which I ran under Wine because no Mac SFTP app suited me), Carbon Copy Cloner and FreeFileSync for file backup and sync, Beyond Compare and a Markdown viewer, and every pane has its own terminal: an SSH shell on the server, or a local shell in the current folder (cmd on Windows, zsh on the Mac). And on the rare day I need to rename a whole batch of files, the renamer (rules or AI) is right there.

The Fab 4 Superpowers

Everything to do with files — online or local, from batch rename to backup and compare. Two of the four are AI-powered.

🌐

Online — SFTP

Connect to any server and manage remote files across tabs — saved sessions (passwords in your keychain), edit-in-place with auto re-upload, permissions, and a built-in SSH terminal.

📂

Local files

A classic dual-pane manager for your own disks — copy, move, edit, delete, with a fast overlapped copy engine.

✦

Batch rename AI

Rename many files at once — by plain-language AI instruction or by find/replace + numbering rules. Always with a preview.

🔄

Backup, sync & compare AI

FreeFileSync-style update or mirror, local or over SFTP, with a mandatory preview and AI-suggested filters — plus folder and file compare with one-click block copy and a 3-way merge.

Plus chmod, host-key verification (known_hosts), drag & drop, bookmarks, Terminal-style themes — signed & notarized, in 20 languages.

A quick tour — the real interface

These aren't screenshots. They're the actual app interface, rendered live on this page. Switch the color scheme up top and the examples recolor with it.

01 · Connect (SFTP)

Your servers, one login window

Like WinSCP, all your SFTP connections live in one place. + opens the login window — saved servers on the left, host/user/key on the right, or just open a local window.

02 · Tabs & toolbar

Every tab is a connection

Each tab is a server connection or a local window. + opens a new one, ⚙ the settings — same clean bar on macOS and Windows.

03 · Batch rename AI

Rename many at once

Describe the rename in plain language for the AI, or use find/replace + numbering rules. Either way you get a live before/after preview before anything changes.

04 · Backup & sync

Compare, then run

Named sync jobs, local or over SFTP. Pick update or mirror, review exactly what will change, then run it. Deletes go to a recoverable trash — even on network drives.

05 · Folder compare New

Two folders, side by side

Press ⚖ and the two panes become the comparison: folders expand in place, both sides stay aligned, and a hatched row shows what's missing. Change a folder and it compares again.

06 · File diff New

See every change — and carry it over

Double-click a differing file to see both versions side by side. Show only the differences or add context, then click the arrow in the margin to copy a block across. Saving always asks first.

07 · Markdown New

Read, edit and copy Markdown

Double-click a .md file and it opens in its own tab: the text on the left, a live preview on the right. Select in the preview and copy it out with the formatting — the colours come from wherever you paste it.

08 · Thumbnails New

Previews where you need them

Tick 🖼 in a folder and photos, PDFs and videos show up as previews next to their names — locally and over SFTP. The setting and the previews live inside that folder and travel with it. The 🖼 button in the toolbar switches thumbnails on globally for every folder — usually not recommended: on large folders and over SFTP it can slow the view down considerably. That is exactly why the setting is stored per folder.

09 · Server terminal

A real SSH shell, built in

Open a full terminal on the server you're connected to — same login, no second tool. Perfect for a quick unzip, tar or restart, right where your files are. It follows your color scheme, and you can zoom the text.

FreeFileSync-style backup & sync

Named sync jobs, local or over SFTP, on a button — no hidden automation. Update or mirror, with a mandatory compare preview before anything is written, move detection, and per-plan filters. Imports FreeFileSync and CCC tasks.

🔍

Compare first

See exactly what will be created, updated, moved or deleted before you run it — deletes go to a recoverable trash, even on network drives.

⚡

Fast copy engine

Overlapped read/write pipeline hits FreeFileSync-class speed, with live throughput, ETA, stop and resume.

🧩

Import your plans

Bring in FreeFileSync (.ffs_gui) and Carbon Copy Cloner (.ccctask) jobs, with a searchable exclusion list.

♻️

Only what changed

Bundle-aware and move-detecting: renaming a VM syncs its small config, not the whole container, and a moved file is moved at the target instead of re-copied. Less rewriting means faster syncs and less SSD wear — and the compare scans millions of files fast.
